RIE-Style Play Groups in Portland, OR

Hello and welcome — I’m glad you’re here!

Thank you for your interest in our play groups. Before you sign up, you should know these play groups are “RIE-style” which means that, after a warm-in, the adults sit back and watch the infants/toddlers play with safe, developmentally appropriate, open-ended play objects.

There will be minimal interruption for the first portion of our time together unless your child needs/wants you and unless I need to intervene to help keep the children safe.

Then, we will have a conversation about what we observed and have an opportunity to discuss questions you may have about parenting and child development.

The pace will feel slow, peaceful, meditative. The conversation will hopefully feel supportive and informative.

Rather than grouping cohorts by age-bands, we assemble groups of infants who are around the same mobility level (understanding that over our time together, we’ll see development). Grouping by mobility is meant to be INCLUSIVE of different developmental timelines, but gross motor ability is only one area of development — please feel free to consider nap schedules as well as social and cognitive development when deciding which group makes sense for your family — and always feel free to reach out to me with questions —Courtney (beechstreetparenting@gmail.com).

And I’m so sorry if the class you want is sold out. I’m working on increasing my capacity and partnerships — I really understand how important this community is.
